I didn’t sleep at all last night because I was so geared up about the Jets. Everything is wonderful and nothing hurts. The Jets are in the playoffs. Oh, happy day.
Jason Bay and I have something in common: We both stole wiffleball equipment from our colleges. Wiffleball and baseball require different skill sets, but I’ll go out on a limb and guess he’s a much better wiffleball player than me. They’re not completely different skill sets, after all.
The way I see it, Ben Sheets offers by far the most upside of the pitchers left on the market. The Mets need innings, too, but the more I think about it, the more I’d lean toward Sheets among Sheets, Joel Pineiro and Jon Garland, given their reported demands.
Danilo Gallinari’s dunk? Cool. Post-dunk pose got lost in translation, though.
Ted, Why couldn’t the Mets being so focused on pitching all the time sign Sheets and Garland? In case Sheets goes down Garland will be there. I’ve been on the Mets for not getting Garland for years he’s still young, maybe not as young and dominant as he was with the Whitesox, but definitely still has something left and I think would be a great upgrade for a 3rd or back end rotation guy especially at Citi Field.
Ted, one more thing I just checked it out a few minutes ago, but on MLBTR they have up all the trades for the Mets since omar has been GM. What a joke. At one point, if I read this correctly, Omar gave up Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew in 2002.
Wow, as much as I love going to MLB Trade rumors, I wish I didn’t read that, that just even more justifies what a horrible GM Omar is. If you were on the fence about it, that proof should put you over to the bad side.
That’s not totally fair, since everyone thought Montreal was going to be contracted, and Omar really had no reason to plan for the future. But I’d like Heath Bell, Matt Lidstrom, and Brian Bannister back.
I think it’s nuts that the Jets made the playoffs, and I think it’s nuts that they get to be a part of the three rematch games this weekend. Hopefully the same teams show up in Cincy on Saturday.
If the Raiders had beaten the Ravens — which was actually pretty close — the Texans would have made the playoffs and played the Patriots, too.
