Obviously the Internet has exploded with the Beltran news, and there’s a lot of information flying around about the details of how the surgery went down. Joel Sherman was among the first on the story, and I think his take is among the best.
Patrick Flood offers some optimism, or maybe pessimism veiled in optimism. Whatever it is, it’s worth a read for the headline alone.
Eric Simon provides a list of possible replacements.
And if you’re looking to take your mind off all the terrible news and think about one terrible movie, one of our SNY.tv editors, Adam Spunberg, has a well-penned retort to my (and others’) disdain for Titanic at AwardsPicks.com. Nothing about why DiCaprio sinks, though.
I’m with Spunberg. “Titanic” is a filmmaking achievement and should be recognized as such. He offers an excellent take and I feel the standard criticisms — it’s over-the-top, the love story isn’t authentic — are just excuses to put down a film because of Celine Dion and pubescent DiCaprio .
I think some of the acting performances are noteworthy, especially Billy Zane (most memorable character, imo), Victor Garber, Gloria Stuart and Bill Paxton.
Also, the brilliance that is “Propeller Guy” cannot be ignored.
I thought it was a perfectly well-made movie and all the effects and all that were great, I just thought it sucked. It actually made me angry while I was watching it; I was that bored. Propeller guy was by far the best part though. That was hilarious.
I just though the love story was a bit over the top in Titanic. I think that movie could have been incredibly awsome if that love story was just tonned down a bit.
What bugged me about the movie Titanic is when they started shooting off guns while the ship was supposedly sinking. No need for that nonsense.
Good movie but too long and overrated. Not even the best movie of that year. I believe that would have been “Good Will Hunting.”
L.A. Confidential that year. Good Will Hunting is also better than Titanic.
Yeah L.A. Confidential is a historically awesome movie.
