The Mets are considering trying Eddie Kunz as a starter. Interesting.

Clutch is what the Yankees need from him. Perhaps now more than ever.

Blasphemy aside, Joe Janish makes a good point about the whole Sandy Koufax-in-camp thing: I’ve read this story before.

I really don’t want to make light of Shin-Soo Choo’s terrifying military situation, but man, it really adds a lot of gravity to the 2010 Asian Games.

  1. The problem with Joe Janish’s post IMO, is that like many other bloggers, it seems he didnt actually read the quotes hes taking Koufax to task for. If you actually read it, Joe is taking Sandy to task for something they actually agree on.

Sandy is talking about the ‘delivery’ itself, as in the particular motion a pitcher uses and he is right, as we all know, there is no perfect delivery. Each picther uses thier own and there have been some realy funky deliveies that have produced great great success as we all know.

Joe then ‘takes him to task’ for saying delivery is over-rates, saying ” If a pitcher’s delivery is just an inch off, it can drastically affect his command”. That not the point. Joe is talking about repeating delivery, Sandy is talking about the delivery itself. The second part of Sandy quote basicaly agrees with Joe.

Sandy says “You make it a simple situation so you can retain it. You don’t want it to be something different every time you throw”. So Joe here in an attempt to rant about nothing, basically took a guy to task by agreeing with him.

  2. Always happy to be a part of Fred’s Magical Nostalgia Tour, where the Mets are used as a vehicle to fulfill Fred’s childhood fantasies.

As for Eddie Kunz, it just pains me to even read his name. God, that was the worst draft strategy I can imagine. Let’s draft a guy No. 42 who has the ceiling of a middle reliever in some misguided attempt to have him contribute right away.

And if that’s not bad enough, let’s make that the same draft we give up a first-round pick for Moises Alou.

    • And it wouldn’t have even been that bad if the rest of their draft strategy had been to stockpile high upside talent, which they did nab with Moviel and Vineyard, but after them they drafted like 10 more college relievers and some low risk/low/medium reward college bats.

      • It’s painful to look at that Moviel pick, being sandwiched between Mike Stanton and Freddie Freeman.

I can’t criticize them for not taking Freeman, because that’s the ultimate hindsight call, but it still hurts.
