Adam Rubin on Ollie’s glorious return

Rubin hammers it home. Strong points throughout. For what it’s worth, Perez has been pretty decent against lefties across his career and even in small samples the last couple years, though he has (shocker) walked a ton of them this season.

  1. Absolutely Correct, Mr. Rubin. Obviously the front office is living in some irrational fantasy world if they believe, for a nanosecond, that ANYONE would want Perez. That’s even IF the Mets released him and paid his entire salary. Who wants THIS mess of a project? And even assuming someone DID pick him up, what are the odds he comes back to haunt the Mets anyway? Do you think that bothered the Brewers when they released Jeff Suppan who was almost immediately signed by division foe St. Louis? Or Tampa Bay when they released Pat “The Bat” Burrell? Or maybe Detroit who last year released Gary Sheffield? Maybe Omar thinks he can do as the Angels did w/ GMJ this spring when they agreed to pay $21 of $23 million owed to him. So, Omar/Jeff/Fred: What’s keeping you from dumping this bum???
