This really struck me. People talk about the Big Splash Omar made when he came in as if it were a good thing, but it started a trend of burdening the team with albatross contracts that resulted in the current situation.
The Mets are not years away from being a contender. But 2011 should be a rebuild year. Remember, it’s not a “lost season” if by letting the kids play and contracts expire in 2011 you are able to create a perennial contender in 2012 and beyond.
