Hopefully the NFL cracking down on the nasty hits will reduce injuries, which lately do seem to be getting out of hand. I understand football is a violent game, but something needed to be done.
What I dont understand is all the backlash from the players now saying they have to completely change the way they play the game. Thing is, this latest movement by the NFL didnt change any rules, all it did was institute heavier penaties for breaking them.
This to me in itself shows that some action was needed. The fact that the players now think they need to completely change the way they play, just shows they had zero understanding or a complete disregard for the rules that were already in place.
I keep hearing arguements like “I’m just doing my job” from these defenders, and that may be true, but that should also be part of the focus. Coaches need to stop telling players that thats thier job. These guys are correct in a sense that they do need to change the way they play. And if being aware of the fines makes them play more tentative then so be it, I think thats the point.
