Strikes me that some of you are probably too young to remember Craig MacTavish. Crash, as he was known, was the last helmetless player in the NHL by like a lot. I became conscious of hockey around 1991 or so, and I’m not sure I remember any other helmetless players ever. And MacTavish played without a helmet until 1997. It was the type of thing that seemed really awesome when I was 15 but strikes me as less awesome and more senselessly dangerous now.

Jets-Colts preview with Brian Bassett
As for Mike Salfino’s article that I mention: It’s here, based on research from here.
Pretty interesting stuff. I’ll say, though, that I’d also like to see the Jets’ per-attempt yards yielded when blitzing, since sacks don’t factor in to QB rating. But I buy the data that suggests Manning is less susceptible to the blitz than others. Dude’s like a quarterbacking robot; there’s only so long you’re going to be able to confuse him.
Time to make the donuts
Add “donut hero” to the long list of R.A. Dickey’s accolades. <3. The producer of this segment, Joe Kraus, confirmed that the donut holes are incredible.

Not sure how or where these folks saw my Hall of Fame post from yesterday, but they used my words to defend the suspected steroids user’s case for the Hall of Fame. Whole thing seems like an interesting idea. Megan Murphy does a decent job with the comic inflection and everything too:
Outstanding
The real star here is still Kanye’s Twitter, but just exceptional work all-around:

Recapping the Jets’ regular season with Brian Bassett
I’m so far beyond the usual need-a-haircut point that I’m now considering just going for the full Fabio. This happens periodically.
Well that sucked
Can’t say I’m thrilled with the outcome of the Georgetown-St. John’s game last night. Someone needs to remind my Hoyas that it’s much easier to win basketball games when you actually make baskets.
Anyway, it was at least an exciting one, and I suppose there’s something to be said for the Garden rocking with excitement over Red Storm hoops. Plus, the Johnnies were responsible for multiple completely awesome plays. Check out the one-handed alley oop at 0:18 and the absurd, damn-near Jordanesque reverse at 0:46.
