Any idea why it was lit this way?
Yeah, it was celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Madison Square Boys and Girls club. There’s a full schedule here.
They actually changed the lights pretty recently, which is why the colors are more varied and vibrant now than they used to be.
I saw it too and what you say is clearly not the case. In fact, the building was orange and blue in direct mockery of Mets and Knicks fans.
