The inimitable Mike Salfino found this, on the Barnes and Noble page for Linda Cohn’s autobiography:
“Linda Cohn is far hotter than her ‘girl in the locker room’ persona would suggest. I’ve been with her backstage at a rock and roll show. . . . I know.”
—Kevin Cronin, lead vocalist for REO Speedwagon
So there we have it.
I don’t know what Kevin Cronin is implying there, and I don’t think I want to.
I have had precisely one interaction with Linda Cohn in my lifetime. I was covering the Women in Sports Foundation’s annual awards dinner at the Waldorf Astoria for WCSN.com a few years back.
The event probably featured a solid 15-to-1 woman:man ratio — not to mention a ton of beautiful celebrities and free drinks — so it was a pretty sweet gig.
Anyway, the line at the ladies’ bathroom was out the door and down the hall and there was no one else in the men’s room. It so happened that I was using the men’s room at the same moment the women at the back of the line, all hellbent on girl power I suppose, decided to revolt and storm the men’s room.
I had no idea this was going on, of course, and I wanted to look good for all those beautiful celebrities. So while the bathroom attendant was struggling to keep the horde at bay, I was straightening my tie and fixing my hair, totally oblivious to the developing riot right outside.
As I primped, a woman yelled from the doorway, “OK, you can fix your makeup later!”
I looked toward the entrance, and it was Linda Cohn, leading the surge. Startled and humiliated, I ducked out of the bathroom as the crush of angry women stormed past the overwhelmed attendant.
But I heard no REO Speedwagon lyrics that evening.
On a serious Linda Cohn note, although I am all but competely turned off to ESPN and Sportscenter these days, I have to say she is probably one of the Strongest SC anchors they have. She was always one of my favorites on that show.
I completely agree with this. It’s like she’s a connection to a better time when Sportscenter wasn’t completely unwatchable.
Yea now we are stuck with Stan Verret ad Neil Everret.
I used to watch sportscenter all morning back when I was in HS and college. Now I cant even take 5 minutes of it.
Thirded. I feel like the Internet sort of killed SportsCenter, too. It seems like, since there are so many other ways for us to get news and highlights now, the show got bogged down in catch phrases and pointless segments.
For me, though, no one will ever top Craig Kilborn’s work behind the SportsCenter desk. I realize he’s a divisive figure, but I loved the dude and hope he makes some sort of awesome comeback sometime soon.
Ted I agree about news these days, sportcenter is not breaking any big stories at this point in time, where news is instant on the internet.
But it would be nice to still have a quaility highlight show each night to recap the days happenings. Sure if I want to I could surf the internet and find highlight of all the major sports games of the days but that takes work and searching, besides the fact that i’d then be watching it on my laptop instead of my 50 inch plasma in HD.
Other thing I notice is that SC doesnt show all the highlights anymore. Back in the day, you would at least get a highlight or 2 and a score from every game that happened in the 4 major sports. Now you dont get that, you only get the big time games, the Lakers and Cavs etc. Even if its an irrelevant game, I’d like to still see what happened and who won.
Exactly. Instead of 30 seconds of Lakers-random team highlights followed by 3 minutes of analysis of that game, show me 30 seconds of each game from that night.
If she yelled at me I would have informed her that she would have to wait her turn on the line for the ladies room. Then I’d make fun of the Rangers and ask to borrow some of her makeup since I ran out while taking my sweet time. Some eyeliner perhaps?
