Head, meet desk

Acosta optioned to Buffalo to make room for Igarashi tomorrow. Guess Mejia’s staying in pen.

Awesome. And by “awesome” I mean “not at all awesome.”

Acosta’s actually been better than Mejia out of the pen in small samples. And Acosta’s not a 20-year-old stud prospect who should be starting and needs work on his secondary pitches before he can help a decimated rotation.

  1. Looks to me like they’re going to try to do with Mejia, what they did with Parnell last year. That worked out real well!

  2. Damn you Adam Rubin and your sources for getting our hopes up.

Again, this is all the fault of Minaya and Wilpon. I don’t care what Jerry wants, if a front office listens to a manager who by all accounts is games away from getting fired about how to handle its prized pitching project, shame on them

    • It begins to seem that Minaya is battling Jerry and Jeff. There’s no other reason I can conceive of that what Jerry wants would have a damn thing to do with it.

Receipts are down nearly 20 so far this season. That’s a lot of clams. Jeff needs the team to win games right now as much as Jerry does (not that Jenrry is even a piece that accomplishes that).

      • I just can’t imagine a middle reliever on a last-place team brings in many fans or wins.

But I wouldnt want to underestimate Jeff’s stupidity.

      • I have to agree that’s the only way it makes sense to me. Omar was pretty adamant about sending Meija down until the Jerry started lobbying to the media and got them involved during spring training. And I don’t see how leaving him up helps Minaya at all if anything bringing him up in September after a year of starting to awe fans would help Minaya way more than him wasting away in the bullpen. And since reports have seemed to have paint it as the front office vs Jerry, Jeff siding with Jerry seems to be the only way Jerry could win. Maybe Jerrys convinced him that keeping Meija up will get fans excited.

But yeah you would hope Jeff would be smart enough to realize that having another young ace in the making in the rotation in September and sometime next year would help ticket sales WAY more than a middle reliever…also I would hope that he would realize firing Jerry would probably help fans come back.

  3. Ignoring the entire Meija debacle, I don’t understand why Acosta was sent down over Nieve? I know he’s been overworked which is probably hurting his numbers but regardless he’s clearly less effective at this point, and hell maybe a break from Jerry the maniac would help him.
