Rob Dibble and Ray Knight go at it

Hat tip to Can’t Stop the Bleeding for this video of the MASN studio analyst (and former Met) getting in a tiff with the MASN in-game analyst (and current jackass).

I probably catch about as many Nats broadcasts as any other non-Mets big-league team, but for some reason, it feels like I see three times as many. I think that has something to do with Dibble’s behavior, which vacillates between buffoonish, pompous and just plain old goony. He makes Mark Grace look like Vin Scully.

To Dibble’s credit, I’m pretty sure I once saw him throw at a batter and charge the plate. Also, one of the CStB commenters points out, “He’s like Kenny Powers except completely unlikeable in every aspect.”

That’s a pretty good call, and until now I had never realized how much they actually sound alike. Add a tiny bit of southern twang to Dibble’s jockish growl and you’ve got Kenny Powers, spot-on.

  1. I live in Virginia Beach, so when the Mets play the Nats I cannot access the games on MLB.tv, I have to watch on MASN. I can assure you that Rob Dibble is without a doubt the WORST “analyst” I’ve EVER listened to. He’s deranged. Bob Carpenter is awful as well, and he eggs Dibble on constantly and they just go on wild tirades spouting completely untrue ramped up Nats-slurping nonsense.

Dibble is the worst example of someone who takes every play no matter how insignificant and tries to find some way to turn it against the other team. If the other team hits a home run, it was because the wind is blowing out. If the Nats hit one, the guy who hit it is a phenom, an all-star, a growing superstar in the making. If the opponents make a great play in the field, he’ll argue for 15 minutes that the ump made a bad call at first, even when the replays show he’s wrong. If the Nats make a routine play, it was defensive Wizardry.
It’s disgusting. When the Mets turned theIr triple play against the Nats earlier this season, Dibble’s response was this: “Well, that wasn’t really a TRUE triple play.”

    I’m not kidding.

  2. Dibble is the PITS…..Ray’s point was a good one (waste a pitch, Dibble). I watch the Mets on the MLB package and when they are in DC, Dibble drives me crazy with his stupidity
