I don’t think there is any question, the vast majority will give an O. I can see them doing it until he acknowledges the crowd. New York has a vastly undeserved reputation of being poor sports. I mean, it’s not like we’re Phillies fans.
To me the only question is whether or not the Mets make it official by calling it “Farewell to Chipper” night or something. My guess is no but I would be proud if they did.
I think this “he’s the enemy, he’s to be hated until death” mentality is deranged. It’s a game, and for Chipper, that game will be over. He was the most formidable foe of my generation. That demands respect and, for one night only, a tip of the hat.
