  1. Hickey is overvaluing Lee & misreading Seattle’s situation. Two good prospects who are close to ready (let’s say F-Mart & Mejia) are a lot more valuable than two unknown ’11 (#1 & a supplemental round). In Seattle, holding on to Lee for three months makes sense only if the team were to contend, or if the two sides were keen on the idea of an extension. Neither of those scenarios seem likely.

    At this point, Seattle’s GM doesn’t know whether the two 2011 picks will work out. For one, those draftees will be 3 years behind an F-Mart or a Mejia. Also, there’s no guarantee he’ll get two #1s as compensation; that depends on how the FA market plays out.

    In fact, giving up two near-ready, A prospects for Lee is too much. Only one A prospect should go in a package for Lee. The rest of the package should be B type prospects, or guys in the very low minors.
