Knicks Prez Donnie Walsh told me today that Isiah Thomas will be among Knicks GM candidates if they make a hire.

Wait a minute: What?
Look, I don’t know much about operating an NBA basketball team. In fact, there’s really only thing I’m downright certain of: Never, ever let Isiah Thomas anywhere near the controls.
And it’s not about the sexual-harassment lawsuit that cost the Knicks $11.6 million or even the time he overdosed on sleeping pills and then threw his 17-year-old daughter under the bus. I mean, yeah, those are two reasons I’d probably be leery of hiring the guy, but I’m not one for sweeping moral judgments.
I mean, holy crap, they JUST unburied themselves from all the damage the guy did while he was in charge.

I don’t know that I would even say they’re unburied yet. They didn’t have a draft pick this year because of the Marbury trade, and they won’t have picks in two of the next three years because they had to use them to unload other Marbury contracts, and they still have Eddie Curry on the books through the end of the year.
Without Curry, the Knicks would have had enough cap room for three free agents, which would have at least been enough to give Miami a run for their money on the big three.
Whats become pretty clear is that Isiah Jim Dolan are friends, and that’s not going to change which is fine. I find it very hard to believe that this is anything more than the Knicks (Dolan specifically) trying to throw his buddy some good press.

This is Donnie Walsh saying things to the media to make his crazy boss happy.
and too that point, I dont think anything Donnie says to the media is ever accurate. Himself a native NYer, I bet he gets a thrill throwing the wolves way off course then watching them scramble.
*Isaiah contracts, not Marbury contracts.
If Walsh stays on as President I think it would make sense. They’d get a guy who’s clearly great at spotting talent in Isiah, and a guy with common sense with power to stop his stupid.
Of course if Walsh went on to retire in a year it would spiral back in madness quickly.
