I aleady mentioned this in the over I heart Carlos post but best game I’ve ever been to.
I remember that game perfectly:
Maine gave up two bombs to Pujols including a Grand Slam.
Delgado counters with two dingers of his own including a Grand Slam off of that loser Jeff Weaver.
Then, BAM! 9th inning walk off from Beltran.
2006 was awesome because the best part about that game is that I had no doubt we’d win it. It’s fun to sit in the stands and while being down 7-1 at one point, being confident.
I was at that game too! Probably one of my favorite reg. season gms ever attended…Pujols and Delgado were in an absolute slugfest that night. Wasn’t one of ’em Delgado’s 400th as well? If memory serves me right Beltran hit that walk-off off of Isringhausen as well. I don’t drool over Beltran quite as much as some of the folks here :)…but this game was amazing.
Yeah, I was watching in bed, struggling to stay awake, and I think Gary also said, “Carlos Beltran launches one into the New York night” and that his call was recorded for Mets bottle openers.
If memory serves me right, it turned into an extra inning pitching duel between Darren Oliver and Ryan Madson, with Madson pitching lights out for 6 or 7 innings before Beltran took him deep. Awesome game. And I still maintain that Beltran wins NL MVP that year if he didn’t screw his knee up banging into the chainlink fence in Houston making a great catch. But no big deal, DW’s gonna win it this year.
Feels so very, very long ago. (Not a comment on Beltran, moreso on 2006).
Yes, he strikes terror in the ninth inning.
Unless Adam Wainwright is on the mound… ;)

I prefer his walkoff against the Phillies in the bottom of the 16th with Madsen on the mound.
“and we’re going HOME!”

it was like 2am at that point.
