Rick Reed on Alex Rodriguez

Of course, I just went and brought it up. But the Daily News’ coverage of A-Rod’s 600th home run was so brutal — from the back cover reading “Congrats* (on your tainted milestone)” to Mike Lupica’s moralistic second-person screed — that I wanted to highlight the quote from Reed, the voice of reason.

  1. I agree, I forgive Arod and people should just move on, but the fact that he is clean now and being tested everyo month does not erase the fact that he did steroids when disussing a milestone of a cumulative nature like this, that includes many HRs that were hit while on the sauce.

I think it terms of these cumulative records, the stroid talk is fair game IMO.

  2. Nonsense. Why should we believe he’s not cheating now? When is his next HGH test? Are there no steroids that can’t be detected by the tests MLB uses? Until the union agrees to blood testing and MLB starts to store blood samples to be tested in the future as better steroid tests are created, there are no players that should be above suspicion and cheaters who have been caught should be treated as if they are still cheating.

If we’ve learned one thing from the Steroid Era (which is NOT over, BTW (and didn’t start in the 90’s, either)), it’s that there is an incentive to look the other way among nearly everyone involved in the sport.

    • Exactly. And what about off-season testing? They still don’t do that. And everyone in the media ignores that you continue to reap the benefits of steroids long after you stop using. A recent study suggested up to 3 years.
