Lefty Pat Misch, who has had a stellar season for the Mets’ Triple-A team, likely will start Saturday’s game against Roy Halladay and the Phillies.
If Misch is called up, the Mets would have to make a roster move, with reliever Manny Acosta the leading candidate to be sent down.
First of all, I know Acosta blew a game he shouldn’t have been in on Wednesday, but really? Him? Acosta has actually been decent for the Mets outside of that one awful outing and appears a better bet to be good moving forward than Elmer Dessens, who has completely disappeared.
After pitching in basically every other game from the All-Star Break until the end of July, Dessens hasn’t pitched since a 2 2/3 inning outing in the Mets 14-1 loss to the D-backs on Aug. 1. That was actually the last time Ollie Perez pitched, too.
The Mets are carrying two guys in their bullpen who don’t pitch at all. But hey, that’s cool, it’s not about winning games anymore. It’s about… wait, what is it about?

Why has Dessens disappeared? He’s got an ERA under 2.00, didn’t pitch well in that August 1 game, but before that had pitched rather well.
If he’s not going to be used, then I guess send him down. But I don’t know why he hasn’t pitched.
I suppose because he pitched poorly that he’s now in Jerry’s doghouse and won’t be used again anytime soon. That’s just what happens when you play for Jerry Manuel.
I know there are plenty of things the Mets do that make zero sense, but this might take the cake.
What is so hard to understand about this?
If you cut Ollie:
He doesn’t pitch, he gets paid, you have a 25-man roster.
If you keep Ollie:
He doesn’t pitch, he gets paid, you have a 24-man roster.
What is the difference between keeping and burying him and cutting him?
Ted, The Mets are playing to see how much more they could piss off their fan base. Also, to build up what little trade value they could get for Castillo, Perez, Reyes, Francouer, Beltran, Etc. There should only be a few exceptions, everyone else should be at least tradable. Maybe they could get some POP Chips in return. Those things are awesome and Ashton Kutcher is a partner in the company.

Don’t worry, the Mets will actually be cutting two pitchers not named Oliver Perez before Saturday’s game. They’ll have to open up a roster spot for K-Rod, too.
Say goodbye to both Manny Acosta and Elmer Dessens.
At this point they might as well keep Ollie for next year. If there was ever a time he would get his act together it would be during his contract year. Last year and this year are done and those $24 million are gone. They might as well give him a month next year to see if he can get his act together when he is facing a payday.
Also Dessens has been pitching WAY over his peripherals. He is a ticking bomb ripe for regression. Honestly they should rather cut him rather than allowing his inevitable explosion at Citi.
Maybe if the Mets eat Milton Bradley’s atrocious contract, they can swap Ollie for Chone Figgins’ atrocious contract.
