Rubin: Why the Mets don’t win… part lost count

Rod Barajas is due to join the Mets tonight. And while no official move has been made, one report already indicates Fernando Martinez is the one headed to Triple-A Buffalo.

Whether or not that materializes, the mere fact the Mets will carry three catchers is absurd. It’s now essentially a 23-man team, because the third catcher probably sees as much action as Oliver Perez going forward, no?

Adam Rubin, ESPN New York.

This. If Josh Thole loses even a minute of playing time in favor of Rod Barajas, I might protest the rest of the season or something.

  1. Not that he isnt without his fair share of blame tihs year, when Jerry is fired after this season, I’d love for him during his interview onthe way out to be like, “Seriously, WTF was up with the roster I was given to work with half the time!!!”

  2. Cardinals are without a backup catcher they’re willing to play, since LaRue got hurt in fight with Reds and is out for the season. Their starter, whose name should not be repeated, is playing every day. Maybe we trade them one of the not-so-killer Bs.

I believe Barajas needed to be activated in order to go through waivers and be traded.
