Report: Mets hire Collins

So there’s that. Color me ambivalent. Hopefully Collins demonstrates the player-development skills that earned him regards for his role as Minor League Field Coordinator, and not whatever characteristics made the Angels run him out the door in 1999. And here’s the friendly reminder that the manager probably doesn’t matter as much as we think.

  1. So the Mets fanbase finally gets a manager with tons of fire, but because he wasn’t on the 1986 club, the Chicken Littles on MetsBlog are having a collective douchefest.

    No wonder people hate NY.

    • Yea its pretty bad over there. The Wally crowd is taking it pretty hard. It got to the point the last few days that with some of those people, if you made any point againts Backman it was like you were insulting these people’s mother or something.

I think at the end of the day the complainers will complain and those who are optimistic will do so regardless of the choice. Looking at all the candidates they all had numerous pros and cons and if you really want too, you can make yourself like or dislike any one of these guys. The complainers would have picked the negative about any candidate and complained.

  2. Their is rioting in the streets over on Cerrones site. Some of the stuff being said is so over the top it can’t be serious.
Im still surprised no one has made the Coughlin comp with Collins. Seems appropriate to me.

      • People seem to assume that, without a doubt, they are correct and could manage the team better than the manager or GM, depending on the situation. It’s unbelievable.

        Was Collins my top choice?
        No.
Will I give Alderson, whose hiring I readily accepted, the benefit of the doubt?
        Absolutely
The man conducted interviews, and certainly wouldn’t hire a candidate for half of his current contract length with the Mets if he didn’t think this candidate would succeed.
